Howard S. Fox, M.D., Ph.D., professor, Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience and Director of the Center for Integrative and Translational Neuroscience.
Factors that injure neurons in the brain and how neurons can be protected are the focus of Dr. Fox's laboratory. For example how HIV enters the brain, the beneficial and harmful actions of immune cells, the effects of drugs, and the cell biology of neurons are all projects in which graduate students play a big roll and bring fresh ideas to the studies. His lab is known for their use of "omic" technologies (proteomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics) and their successful application to future experimentation.
