TV9 - Bijapur Bandh For Pakistan Flag Hoisted In Sindgi town........!

In Sindgi town, 60 kilometers from Bijapur city of Karnataka, some unknown people hoisted the Pakistani flag at the tahsildar's office at midnight while celebrating New Year. Local people were shocked to see the Pakistani flag hoisted at tahsildar's office premises.

The locals then reported to Hindutva organisations, who became furious and went on to attack the tahsildar when he arrived at his office in the morning. They also pelted stones at buses and went uncontrollable after many activists gathered at the spot.

As the protest intensified, police resorted to a mild lathi charge to control the situation. Police have taken some persons into custody for inquiry and but no arrest had been made. Additional forces have been deployed to avoid any untoward incidents.

The people shouted slogans asking the police to arrest the criminals immediately. They also criticized the careless attitude of police even after a similar incident took place last year.

"If the police had arrested the persons who hoisted the flags in Bijapur city last year, they would not have repeated it. The department is solely responsible for the act," the activists shouted.

Superintendent of Police D.C. Rajappa rushed to the spot along with police forces and made futile attempts to control the mob. D C Rajappa and Deputy Commissioner in-charge Kashinath Pawar visited the spot, promised to hold talks with the protesters and arrest the accused. Rajappa said locals tried to manhandle him.

Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishat and Bajrang Dal held a protest in Bijapur, against hoisting of the flag and burnt a Pakistani flag. They warned that the organisations would intensify their agitation if the police failed to arrest the culprits.

The whole situation resulted in a bandh-like atmosphere and the police had to force traders to down their shutters. Bus services were also severely hit and normalcy was affected.
