This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Shaun tells us about his work in India with Crossover Basketball and how the leadership lessons that help kids excel on the court actually help as a student.
Shaun Jayachandran is the founder and president of Crossover Basketball and Scholars Academy, a non-profit education program that uses basketball as its vehicle for change in India. He also serves as the executive director of Dream India Academy. An experienced teacher, school administrator, and coach, Shaun has developed curricula aimed at leveraging sport for social change. Crossover has successfully used basketball in Chennai to engage students while fostering leadership, character, teamwork, and communication. The program has grown from 45 students in 2012 to a pre-determined limit of 450 students in 2014.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
