You just typed "The End" on the last page of your book and breathed an enormous sigh of relief, mixed with self-satisfaction. You know that your book is amazing and there is nothing to keep it from flying off the shelves. After a few conversations with publishers you find that they are each asking you the same question. "Do you have platform?"
You are pretty sure that they don't mean Platform 9 3/4. Well, you wonder. where the heck will I find one of those?
The very first step to building your platform, (yep, you build a platform, you can't just go to Costco and pick one up), is to figure out your brand. Your brand is everything you are. It's your personality, your style, the genre you write in, the type of business you are in and on and on and on. And you need it, like yesterday!
Join myself and +Carolyn Capern as we open a discussion on branding and how creating your brand is maybe, even more important than the book you just wrote. Without your branding you can't begin to build your platform and without your platform you are knee deep in mud. While somebody else is up on their platform telling the world what a great book they have and getting the shelf space that you feel should belong to you. At least you hope its mud.
