Former health insurance public relations executive Wendell Potter says if you believe that the United States has the best healthcare system in the world and if you were persuaded that the healthcare bill President Barack Obama signed into law in March 2010 was a "government takeover of the health care system," he and his former colleagues earned every penny of their lucrative salaries. Potter wrote the talking points and lies you hear repeated over and over again in the corporate media.

Potter spent 20 years working as a public relations executive for Humana and CIGNA, two of the largest for-profit health insurance companies in the U.S., but in 2008, his conscience got the best of him.

He's now exposing and speaking out against the very practices he once defended.

In his new book, "Deadly Spin: An Insurance Company Insider Speaks Out on How Corporate PR Is Killing Health Care And Deceiving Americans," he writes, "Without basic knowledge of PR tactics and the ability to distinguish between fact and distortion, Americans--and that includes journalists, both professional and citizen--are at the mercy of spin doctors and the public relations practitioners whose loyalty to their clients outweighs the public's right to the truth."

Wendell Potter is now senior fellow on health care at the Center for Media and Democracy. For more, visit: http://wendellpotter.com/
