On Wednesday, November 4, community volunteers, City of Greenville employees and CarMax employees worked together to build an entire playground in one day. Volunteers assembled playground pieces, mixed concrete, moved mulch, and much more.
The CarMax Foundation and KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives of all kids, awarded the City of Greenville and the Community Foundation of Greenville a Build it with KaBOOM! Playground Grant for the new playground, which is located at the David Hellams Community Center (111 Spartanburg Street) in the Greenline-Spartanburg neighborhood. The grant included technical support, based on the KaBOOM! community-build model, through an experienced project manager. The grant also included funding for the playground equipment and site enhancements to transform the area around the playground into an inviting space for the whole community.
