PHOTOSHOP WATERCOLOR PAINTING EFFECT | In this tutorial, I show you how to easily turn a photo into a watercolor painting with Photoshop! To create the watercolor effect, we'll use two of Photoshop's Artistic filters (Cutout and Dry Brush), both found in the Filter Gallery, along with the Median filter and layer blend modes, and we'll keep the effect fully editable using Smart Objects and Smart Filters. This way, you'll be able to go back and try different filter settings to fine-tune the watercolor effect for your specific image.

As always, I've designed this step-by-step Photoshop tutorial so that it's easy to follow along, even if you're a beginner.

FILTER GALLERY GRAYED OUT?
If the Filter Gallery is not available to you, it's most likely because you're using a 16-bit image. In Photoshop, go up to the Image menu in the Menu Bar and choose Mode. If your image is set to 16 Bits/Channel, change it to 8 Bits/Channel. The Filter Gallery should then become available.
