Drs. Bernie Pauly and Michael Prince and UVic student Jill Doucette are three of the many community heroes at the university whose research is deeply rooted beyond campus.

Pauly, a registered nurse, associate professor and devoted community-based researcher, helps drive action on homelessness.

Prince, UVic's inaugural Lansdowne Professor of Social Policy, is a tireless community volunteer who has served on various boards and as advisor to governments and parliamentary committees including the Canadian Human Rights Commission on disability issues.

Doucette, who left her own indelible mark on campus and around town while a UVic biology student by co-founding Common Energy and launching a green business consulting practice, is planning to pursue a PhD in social enterprise at UVic.

The trio was celebrated in February 2011 at the annual Victoria's Leadership Awards (VLA).
