Hi, I'm Jared Landt with the Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources with some tips for safely riding your ATV.

ATVs are fun to ride, but they are also powerful machines. ATVs should be properly sized for the operator. When seated the rider's thigh should be parallel to the ground and the rider should have 3 to 6 inches of clearance between him and the seat when in a standing position. The rider must be able control the ATV by shifting their weight and must be heavy enough to not be thrown from the machine.

To sign up for an ATV safety course, go to www.iowadnr.gov and enjoy riding that ATV safely!
