Republicans calling President Obama a big government guy may have to change their tune a bit. The president this week will ask Congress for the power start consolidating a group of government agencies dealing with trade and commerce. According to the White House, $3 billion could be saved and over 1000 unnecessary government jobs could be eliminated by the move. Included in the list for consolidation: the Small Business Administration, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and the vaguely named Trade and Development Agency. Republicans are already saying the move would barely reduce an over bloated federal government. And the effort could be as strategic for the administration as it is pragmatic. We can already hear the detractors spinning...President Obama, the government job killer!
