Yuna Kim's agency will "respect the Korean Federations' decision to file a complaint to ISU"

by Jaeryun Bae, Newsen

Yuna Kim's agency announced today that it respects the move made by the Korean officials to file a complaint against the ISU's judging.

This announcement is in response to the official complaint filed by Korean Olympic Committee and Korean Skating Union on the controversial judging at the Ladies Singles Figure Skating Event at the Sochi Winter Olympics. The announcement was made on March 21st, by All That Sports, a management agency representing the figure skating champion Yuna Kim.

In a statement made through her agency, Yuna Kim stated, "as I participated in the Sochi Winter Olympics as an athlete representing Republic of Korea, I respectfully accept the decisions made by the officials to file a complaint to the ISU's Disciplinary Commission.

This message was delivered to the Korean Skating Union immediately after a complaint was filed to the ISU's Disciplinary Commission. The Korean officials had made this move based on their determination that the judging at the Ladies Singles Event was unreasonable and unfair.

All That Sports explained that "Yuna Kim's statement is from a perspective of an athlete representing her country. She accepts the decisions made by her officials regarding the competition as she understands it is a result of a long and careful deliberation process on the issue. We are aware that the officials have made a measured decision after considering the best course of action for Korean athletes and fans. We believe that these kinds of decisions are to be made collectively and cannot be determined by the athlete's preference alone.

The agency added, "Korean Olympic Committee has stated that it will do its best to protect its athletes from any unfair treatments at future international competitions. In agreement, we hope that this case would be an opportunity to turn the course in the repeated judging controversies and unfair incidents that the Korean athletes have been facing."
