Doing this is actually a piece of cake, so understand this video as a summary.
You can do this with everything that is recognized as an external drive may it be a hard-disk, a SD card, an iPod, a USB-stick or whatever.
I don't know why I included the 2nd possibility, since this is really crap. There are several reasons (besides the slow booting of the machine afterwards): • The Master Boot Record (MBR) only supports drives ≤ 2 TB, which means that you'll soon need to trash that old thing. • When booting from a MBR-formatted drive, the Mac's EFI uses something like a compatibility mode.
