FORT HOOD, Texas—It was more than they were expecting.
On the Friday before Mother's Day, the USO and the What to Expect Foundation, founded by best-selling author Heidi Murkoff, delivered a special baby shower to 150 pregnant military spouses and service women here.
The shower included baby-themed games, food, a raffle and a question-and-answer session with Murkoff, who wrote the best-selling book "What To Expect When You're Expecting."
"Being a mom is tough enough under the best circumstances, but being a mom far from your family and friends is really exponentially tougher," Murkoff said. "So we're here to celebrate with the moms and give them the baby shower they might not otherwise have."
Each guest also received a signed copy of one of the books from Murkoff's series, in addition to an Aveeno gift set, changing table, Peter Rabbit book, and a Sports Clips goodie bag to take home for dad.
"Its actually really great to have all the expecting moms come together and have an event just for us," said Sarah Ryan, a baby shower attendee. "It made us feel really supported and special. So its nice on this upcoming Mother's Day weekend."
