Production of glass bulbs for electric lamps on the Corning Ribbon Machine, filmed shortly after the opening of Glass Bulbs Ltd. in Harworth, UK, 1950. This was the first ribbon machine to be installed outside USA, and Glass Bulbs was a joint company set up by Thorn Lighting and Osram-GEC to service their common requirement for glass bulbs, which was financed by the vast overcapacity created by this machine which enabled sale of bulbs to virtually all other European manufacturers and a considerable part of further overseas demand. Glass Bulbs later became independent and was known as GB Glass Lighting, followed by Dema Glass, and ultimately SLI Glass following its acquisition by Sylvania Lighting International.
