This complimentary 30-minute training program on what gun dealers, ranger masters, and gun owners can do to prevent suicide is presented by Paul Quinnett, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist, international suicide prevention expert, gun owner, and outdoor writer. Paul was the back page editor for Shooting Times Magazine from 1988 to 1995, and many gun enthusiasts are familiar with his work.
The content for this training program was developed in collaboration with injury prevention experts and researchers Elaine Frank (Dartmouth University) and Cathy Barber (Harvard University).
The training is based on extensive research on the role of firearms in suicidal behavior, and how and why restricting access to firearms by people in emotional crisis can save lives.
The training is not anti-gun. Rather, it focuses on what gun dealers and gun owners can do in a "foreground check" -- not a "background check" - to prevent inappropriate access to firearms and their misuse.
The training is hosted by the QPR Institute, an educational organization dedicated to preventing suicide through excellence in education.
