On Saturday, April 7, the first piece of the aircraft carrier flight deck was erected on the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), currently under construction at Newport News Shipbuilding. The 717-metric ton unit includes combat systems and electronics spaces, and with its addition brings Ford to 75 percent structural completion.
