A bridge long-neglected by the Translink in the midst of increasing traffic volume. A second northbound bridge coming out onto McBride Blvd is needed, the Patullo should be used for southbound traffic and have a dedicated bike lane. At present it has four narrow lanes. Commercial drivers often drive dead-middle down two lanes creating slowdowns. Can't forget the plenty of me-drivers, 99.5% of drivers are good but that small percentage...I drive north on the PB three times a week around mid-afternoon and virtually every time I'm passed by several cars driving at least twice the posted speed limit. Today people one after another blew past me, most of these people were doing 100km+ or 60 mph+, I'm driving a bit over the speed limit. It doesn't matter how many people die on the bridge, nothing sinks in. Maybe NEW WESTMINSTER POLICE could do northbound radar once in awhile, I haven't seen that before. I should mention that I have a friend that was found at fault in the death of another person on the PB, an ex co-worker of mine used to be a tow truck operator and once had to pick up the body parts of a small girl after accident, speed once again was the problem. Translink has got to make a decision once and for all regarding this bridge's future. My late father was the chief lower mainland paving superintendent for the BC Government, Ministry of Highways back in the mid 1960's to mid 80's. His responsibility was to coordinate and execute paving projects in Region 1, which was the lower mainland (1 of 6 in the province). 20, 25 years ago he said the Pattullo was a miserable bridge that needed serious upgrading/fixing. 25 years later it's gotten worst. Rubber lane seperators? Chunks of pavement missing? What a joke. What a rant.
