Journalist Mary Jo McConahay speaks about her book ' Maya Roads' at the Museum of Indian Arts and culture on September 17, 2011. McConahay's book is full of adventure, discovery and danger in the world of the Lacandon and Maya in Chiapas and Guatemala. She lived in Guatemala in the 1990s, where she began work on her travel memoir describing journey among the people of the rainforest. Over a span of some thirty years, the author witnesses archaeological discoveries, the transformation of the Lacandon people, the Zapatista indigenous uprising in Mexico and increased drug trafficking, and she assists the uncovering of a war crime.
