This exercise is designed to condition and strengthen hip stabilizing muscles, specifically the hip abductors. This is a great exercise for distance runners trying to prevent IT-band problems.

Perform this exercising a slow and controlled manner, emphasizing the use of buttock muscles to bring the leg out to the side of the body.
