A very useful exercise to help in the fluency of shorthand is the repetition of words. This exercise consists of the following: first you choose a few words from a passage or dictation, preferably words with difficult tracing, or words that have special initial or terminal signs as well as conventional signs. Afterwards, you start training these words, one by one, repetitively. The more you repeat these words, the better! You can repeat them today, tomorrow or even, for several days. With this repetitive training of words, performed in a systematic way, the student will be able to eliminate, little by little, any doubt or mental hesitation which is the main factor of delay and loss of words when writing in shorthand. In this practice, one’s complete attention is “zeroed in” on the size and ratio of signs, in other words, to the perfection of the shorthand signs.
