The village Orivayal is situated 16 km away from Mudhukulathur in Kadaladi Block of Ramanadapuram district in Tamil Nadu. The village has 249 households where 692 men and 638 women living here. 10 years ago, this Oorani was used for domestic purposes like bathing, washing and livestock rearing. Later the villagers constructed inlet, steps and fencing for the Oorani to use the water for drinking. The Oorani meets the drinking water needs of the school students and also benefits the village. As the water in the well near tank is vanishing day by day, villagers come to this Oorani to fetch the drinking water. People dependency on the Oorani is increasing on other hand the water available in the Oorani is inadequate to fulfill the mounting demand for drinking water. The situation necessitates the need to enhance the storage capacity of the Oorani. The villagers plan to widen the Oorani at one side for which they have purchased the land adjacent to the Oorani. Thereby the Oorani could serve the drinking water need of the village through out the year. The Oorani was renovated with a contribution to the tune of 1.16 Lakhs from PANIIT alumni and a community contribution of about 0.5 lakhs.
