The Center for Holocaust, Human Rights, and Genocide Education (Chhange) presents The Big Read.

Chhange selected A Lesson Before Dying as The Big Read for Monmouth County because the book's underlying message resonates with our mission: preserving human dignity and social justice.
Among the highlights of the Big Read project is a teleconference with the book's author, Ernest J. Gaines. We had two sessions of our Kickoff Special event: Sister Helen Prejean, death penalty activist and author of Dead Man Walking. We also scheduled several showings and discussions of two movies: Dead Man Walking and The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. Other Big Read events included Kirk Bloodsworth, the first Death Row inmate exonerated by DNA, who spoke at Brookdale Community College.

We cannot wait to have you join us in the Big Read.
