In this video I replace my dvd player with a solid state hard drive. This video is meant to be a guide for anyone who wants to do the same upgrade. Do not attempt this upgrade unless you are confident in your abilities to disassemble a computer.

Equipment Bought:
OWC Data Doubler: It appears that OWC has discontinued the data doubler model I used in this video. You will need to call them directly and ask for the correct part or find a different solution.
OWC Electra 6G: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OW...

I used tools from iFixit owned by my school. I typically use them for hardware maintenance on student computers.

UPDATE12/26/12: I have recently removed the SSD from my iMac and given the machine to my father. I have installed it as a secondary drive in my Macbook Pro 2012. If you are interested in seeing that install ask and I will set some time aside in January to film it.

MORE INFO 7/8/14: I put a 6G SSD in this machine despite it having a 1.5 NLS. I chose a 6G because I never intended to keep this hardware for very long. As I mentioned above in 2012, This SSD is in my laptop which has an NLS of 6G.
