Video 10 -- Trackpad over keyboard
Smart TVs are becoming more popular but the extra features are cumbersome to access with traditional remote controls. Users have to use navigation keys to move the cursor up, down left or right, which can be slow if many items are displayed.

The ideal solution would be a mouse or trackpad to move the cursor. The challenge is to integrate the mouse or trackpad into a remote control without increasing the size or the cost.

Azoteq has developed a trackpad that can function over a membrane keyboard. This allows the user to switch between mouse mode and keyboard mode.

In mouse mode the user's finger is tracked with a capacitive sensor, which is then sent to the TV as mouse commands.

In keyboard mode the same capacitive sensor is used to detect individual key presses.

The trackpad can even be used to draw or to track multi finger gestures.
The keyboard is sealed and will not falsely trigger even when water is poured on the keyboard.

The trackpad keyboard can also be used in other applications such as feature phones.
