Dr. Phil Plait affectionately referred to as The Bad Astronomer is an internationally renowned astronomer, author, lecturer, blogger, and TV personality. He uses intelligence, critical thinking and a hefty dash of humor to dismantle pseudoscience, conspiracies, and wild claims of the paranormal. His career as an astronomer has brought him in contact with NASA as a contractor for Goddard Space Flight Center for Hubble. He is in high demand for speaking engagements on radio, television and podcasts, and in-person appearances like ours. He is also the creator of the popular website and blog http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/bad..., named one of TIME.com's Best Blogs.

His wildly popular newest book is called "Death from the Skies" which outlines all the heavenly threats that can wipe out our species, from rogue asteroids to gamma-ray bursts. Just something else to worry about that we have no control over.

He is the host of the Discovery Channel's BAD UNIVERSE, which carries on the theme of his book.

He is an expert at debunking "the moon hoax" conspiracy theory, which is why his blog is named Bad Astronomy.

This was taken in 2012 at Spacefest IV in Tucson, AZ at Starr Pass Resort and Spa. Phil Plait spoke on the subject of the Mayan calendar and 2012.

Spacfest is an annual space exploration convention with astronauts that walked on the moon, space and planetary scientists.
