Rich Stallcup (1944-2012) A Champion for Conservation and All Things Wild Co-founder, PRBO Conservation Science, www.prbo.org
Rich's passing has left a deep sadness and an immeasurable void in our lives. We are so grateful to have been touched by him. While we mourn him, we also celebrate and recognize the vitality of his life's work. Rich was a true conservation hero. He taught so many of us about the beauty and magic of birds, dragonflies, lizards, snakes and so much else in the natural world.
Rich was only a teenager in the early 1960's when he helped envision establishing one of the country's first bird observatories, at Point Reyes and then, at age 20, was hired as one of our first biologists. PRBO has since grown into an internationally-recognized conservation science leader, with an annual budget of $10 million supporting 140 staff and seasonal scientists, due in no small part to Rich's decades of commitment and engagement.
Visit www.prbo.org to share your memories of Rich, contribute to the Rich Stallcup Memorial Fund, and learn more about PRBO's conservation science and outreach for a healthy planet that Rich so enthusiastically championed.
About the montage: We are grateful to many friends of Rich who contributed pictures and video. We are especially thankful to Glenn Williams for artfully blending the pictures and videos together into this poignant and beautiful montage. Music used comes from the Grateful Dead, a Rich favorite.
