July 26, 2003. Ian Crocker sets the world record for the men's 100m butterfly during the World Championships held at Barcelona. His time was 50.98", becoming the first man under 51". Phelps' time was 51.10", also under the previous WR.
This WR was broken 3 times in two days: first time by Ucranian swimmer Andriy Serdinov in the first semifinal, then, five minutes later, by Michael Phelps, during the second semifinal, and one day later by Ian Crocker.
Ian Crocker holds the current WR, set in Montreal 2005 with a time of 50.40".
