Noting that black participation in the tea party movement is not restricted due to skin color and that non-participation by blacks "is their prerogative," Project 21 chairman Mychal Massie compares the accomodating and pleasant demeanor of people participating in tea parties with angry signs and statements associated with radicals protesting in Madison, Wisconsin and other places where collective bargaining reform has enflamed Big Labor and its supporters.

The Project 21 black leadership network is a program of The National Center for Public Policy Research. This "empty chair debate" in which Marc Morial, Al Shaprton and Walter Fauntroy failed to appear to defend their past statements about the tea party movement took place on 2/28/11 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
