Leaving Papine, where Kingston meets the Blue Mountains, we drive for nearly two hours thriough Mavis Bank, across the Yallahs River to Hagley Gap and up to Penlyne Castle, finally reaching Abbey Green - the latter part of the journey defintely needs a 4WD vehicle. We pass Jah B's and Wildflower Lodge guest houses on the way.

The walk to Portland Gap, where there is rustic accommodation available through the JCDT, takes an hour and a half - the first part up 'Jacob's Ladder' is quite steep but if you make that you can reach the Peak!. A little rain, another two hours plus and we are on top of Jamaica, with good views and some sunshine.

The walk back down is easier,of course, and we stop off by the Portland Gap cabins and also Whitfield Hall before the drive back down the steep hill to Minto, which is just above Hagley Gap.

We left Papine at 7am and reached back by 5.30pm.
