ELMHURST, Ill. - Zack Boyd drained an 18-foot jump shot with 0.3 seconds left on the clock to lead the Elmhurst College men's basketball team to a 56-55 victory over sixth-ranked Augustana College.

Elmhurst (8-7, 2-2 CCIW) rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to send Augustana (11-4, 1-3 CCIW) home reeling from its third straight conference loss.

Trailing by eight with 13:48 left in the second half, the Bluejays' zone defense frustrated Augustana as the Vikings went without a point for the next 8:40 as Elmhurst used a 13-0 run to build a 45-40 lead with 5:59 left on the clock.

The Bluejays pushed their lead up to eight points on a three-pointer from Boyd with 3:42 left, but Augustana responded with an 11-4 run to pull to within a point on Troy Rorer's three-pointer with 1:06 remaining. Elmhurst turned the ball over after the bucket and Rorer was fouled as he went to the hoop. The Augie guard sank both free throws to put the Vikings up 55-54 with exactly one minute to play..

Boyd missed a three-pointer with 30 seconds left and the Bluejays fouled Brian DeSimone with 19 seconds to play. DeSimone missed the front end of a one-and-one and James Robertson grabbed the loose ball.

Elmhurst dribbled across the mid-court and Mark Scherer burned his final timeout. Boyd worked around an Augie defender and pulled up from the right wing, knocking down a fall-away jumper for the game-winner with 0.3 seconds remaining.

Both teams struggled with their shooting. Elmhurst shot 37.2 percent (22-of-58) from the floor, including 36.4 percent (4-of-11) from downtown. Augustana finished the contest shooting 35.7 percent (20-of-56) from the floor, including 23.1 percent (6-of-26) from downtown. Augustana also struggled from the foul line, hitting just 9-of-16 (56.3 percent) from the charity stripe.

Turnovers plagued the Bluejays for much of the night, as Elmhurst committed a season-high 22 turnovers, resulting in 20 points for the Vikings.

Despite a size advantage, the Vikings struggled to produce inside, shooting 26 three-pointers, including 17 in the second half. A smaller Elmhurst squad also dominated the Vikings on the glass. The Bluejays finished the game with a 48-30 edge on the glass, including 23 offensive rebounds, leading to 22 second-chance points.

Boyd was the only Bluejay to reach double figures in scoring, finishing with 15 points and eight rebounds. Brandon Grubl came off the bench to score eight while D'Ante Foster, Jerome Robinson, Nick Sanford, Justin Phipps, and Erik Dornfeld all scored eight points apiece. Robinson and Dornfeld finished with nine rebounds each.

Mark Roth came of the bench to lead Augustana with 15 points, hitting 4-of-9 from downtown. Bryant Voiles and Kevin Schlitter added 10 points each in the loss.
