Here is my latest project-After 2 long years of acquiring parts, rebuilding parts, acquiring more parts, and custom making the parts I couldn't find
The complete rebuild of a my 1989 KX250 that I got for 100 bucks- all seized and bad overall shape-

I began by stripping it down the bare frame, smoothed all the welds, Powder Coated the frame 2004 Grey KX500
The engine was completely rebuilt using state of the art machining at A1crankshaft in Franklin NJ. Mark is the best at any type of engine rebuilding-

I am using a 69.5mm Wiesco piston and a custom made 70mm stroked crank
I also custom adapted a Makita 1997 KX clutch basket. This unit is much lighter and stronger and will not experience the notching like a stock basket.
I purchased this basket from New Zealand and it only need some minor machining to work. I installed all new bearings throughout the bike-
I also upgraded to 2000 KX250 computer and electronics, Magneto, stator, 60W Moose Lighting coil and 2000 Kiehn 2000 Carb with power jet and TPS.
The bike rips so hard with this setup
The reduction is reciprocating mass is very high-
Magneto comparison - the 2000 mag is much much lighter- as well as the clutch basket- The bike revs up very very quick-
The suspension is off of a 2000 KX500 as are the front brakes and wheel-
The Kx500 Triple tree is a direct bolt on.
As you can see I took my time and had a lot of fun during the process-
Total investment is about $2000
But I have a killer machine!
