As the situation in Haiti begins to look even more dire, the first victims coming out of Haiti have already begun to be treated at hospitals in Miami. Among them, Jackson Memorial has been on the front lines of treating victims of the horrific earthquake that hit the country on Tuesday. Sen. Bill Nelson, who has been working with the State department to help coordinate relief efforts, visited the trauma care center serving victims of the earthquake. Afterward he met with patients being treated for injuries sustained in the quake and the doctors who are treating them. Doctors from UM/Jackson are also currently in Haiti helping with relief efforts.
