Two EMD SD60 engines, the leader in SOO colors and the trailer, a former SOO in newish Canadian Pacific paint, haul the 272 train east. On the Chicago subdivision. The train is running at restricted speed.

I was listening early to the Savanna online scanner feed and heard that a SOO SD60 was leading the Canadian Pacific's 272 train to points east. I spread the word since it was a great weather day for a photo/video opportunity. Good old Jason L. got out the door in a hurry and as I was nearing Genoa, he reported that the train was in Stillman Valley. So I had time to get farther west and chose Fairdale for the capture. Only waited about 10 minutes for it to run by.

Since I had a good video in the "can" I decided to forego any further video captures and settled for a nice photo chase instead. My photos at flickr start here: http://flic.kr/p/bZiULf

The train eventually stopped in Hampshire, Illinois for several hours to await a grade crossing refurbishment to finish ahead. It was like Hampshire Railroad Days with the crew grabbing lunch at a local restaurant, cordially shooting the breeze with railfans (all two of us) and giving locals a look at the train.
