This is the shark that swam in circles around me after I shot a 27" halibut. My gun is NOT loaded - the spear is still in the halibut at this point and I'm holding it in my left hand as it's bleeding all over the place. The bump at the end I made to the shark was with the muzzle of my speargun and in response to it coming WAY too close for comfort as it made a turn towards me.
Afterwards, I thought the shark was gone from the area and I went back to searching for more halibut (they tend to be found in groups). I was cruising 5 ft from the bottom of 20ft, with the halibut attached to my stringer and all of a sudden I feel a strong force push me against my left thigh! It was the same shark and it went for my fish!!
At that point, relieved my leg was free of any shark bites, I make fast to my boogie board and start the long kick back to shore. I saw the shark for a bit longer but it kept its distance as I had my now loaded gun pointed at it.
I don't shoot sharks and I'm still feeling lucky that I didn't have to that day.
