This is "Wings for Marie", and the first part of "10,000 Days". Here is the second part: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-HRa...

"Wings for Marie" and "10,000 Days" are about the singer's (Maynard) mother. Maynard's mother's name was Judith Marie (hence, "Wings for Marie"). She suffered a stroke in 1976 that left her paralyzed until she died in 2003, approximately 10,000 days later. She had been a faithful Christian before her stroke, and remained faithful until her death.

"Wings for Marie" seems to be focused on the death of Judith, and Maynard's acceptance of it ("Now, it's time for us to let you go"). "10,000 Days" seems to be more about Judith's life and faith. I would say that the predominant theme in "10,000 Days" is Judith Marie's personal narrative - it's admiration and understanding of the fact that Judith was able to believe in a god (whom she thought capable of healing her) for 30 years of paralysis, recognizing that her understanding was not sufficient to judge this god and his actions. This strong will, or faith, seems to be a significant source of emotion in the song.

Rest in peace, Judith Marie.
