The XS values are based upon the Cardinal Virtues (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardinal...). Timeless and immutable, the Cardinal Virtues guide our actions and thought processes in business and personal life. To help animate the principles behind our values, we developed the Ethics Engine. Each week, an ethical dilemma is presented to our employees via our intranet (named "Atrium"). Although limited information is provided to describe each dilemma, three or four possible "solutions" are listed for employees to choose. Participation is anonymous and results are aggregated and presented after each answer vote is made.
The correct solution to each dilemma is provided the following week when discussion and learning can begin. The best dilemmas give rise to broadly distributed answer selections (clearly seen in the benchmarking graphics) and often lead to debates on the forum. We believe that simply raising the awareness of the issues involved in these dilemmas helps our company better understand the principles involved in ethical decision making.
The Ethics Engine has been in use at XS since 2005 and now we'd like to make it available to our clients and friends. By registering at www.xsinc.com/ethics, you will be alerted to participate in our weekly ethical dilemma. If you have any questions about how the Ethics Engine might be used at your business or how we might tailor dilemmas to your culture, please contact us at email@example.com.
