Ruger had a great idea in the mid 1980's to introduce a larger version of the mini 14, as a 308 Win, semi auto rifle. It would have been a big hit, but it never made it to the market. I still have a 1985 Ruger Firearms catalog that showcases the XGI rifle, and I share a look at that catalog.
