Minor CME impact! The CME associated with the M6.2 class flare from the AR region 11532 is expected to impact Earth with a glancing blow. The NASA Space Weather Research Center estimates impact around 15:00 UT, July 31, 2012 with an error of +-7 hours. Computer models also show the CME interacting with Mars and MSL on Aug. 2 around 7 UT. Any resulting geomagnetic storms at Earth are expected to be minor but Aurora watchers at high latitudes might get a treat. This video from the NASA Space Weather Research Center shows a computer model of the CME propagating through the solar system. (credit: NASA Space Weather Research Center)
