As early as 2002, I was exploring creating bellydance pieces that were inspired by the 1920s-30's - recently going through some old files on a hard drive, I found this video of my performance (originally shot on VHS) at the 2004 Desert Dance Festival in San Jose, California - and it was the first time that I performed to this song set, and besides the handful of times I had performed with live bands, was probably also the first time I really danced to authentic Middle Eastern Music (Andalusian/Arabic - "Lamma Bada" for the first song, a Jewish song for the second). Still very young all around as a dancer (2000) , as a performer (barely 3 years), and in my early 20s, I obviously had a ways to go in capturing musicality more completely, and holding my technique together when things got faster, I'm actually struck by how dramatic and elegant the beginning is, and how effective the persona is portrayed.
