Track from our Anniversary CD from way back in 1999 : '10 Years Bootleg : 1989 - 1999 ' The song originally sprung from a rehearsal jam sometime in the late 90s
We re-did the song in yet another jam that we recorded too and then filled some 12+ minutes jamming. That version is a REAL MIRACLE OF SOUND! That version can be heard on my webside www.robdokter.com, subpage 'BOOTLEG'
Hope you like it! To me it is among the best we ever did!
THE DISTANCE (music by: Rob Dokter/Marcel Vermaning/Dick Zoeteweij/Willem Stoel) (lyrics by: Rob Dokter)
Performers: Dick Zoeteweij - electric guitar Marcel Vermaning - drums Willem Stoel - bass Rob Dokter - acoustic guitar and vocals (Roughly being the BOOTLEG-line-up for 1993-1998 or so)
LYRICS to 'The Distance':
I was crossing 59th and 2nd Heading for a busstop out of town Love just came a-crashin' Pieces lying all way around.
They say a writer lives what he writes And i tried to write my own lines Had lived some i wish i'd never had Then again, some i never wrote, i wished were mine
Clouds of gasoline against the sunset Blackening out my rearview looks And the man's just pushing it on ahead Unaware of the closing of the book.
All night drive on an interstate-greyhound and every minute the distance grows I'm all through with love and life in my hometown I've had it up to here and i guess it shows I've had it up to here and i guess it shows

(note: some of the best lyrics i ever wrote, wrote them in 5 minutes back then)
