On August 10th, Congressman Mike Michaud, Ranking Member of the House Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Health, attended a ribbon cutting and open house for the new Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) clinic in Portland.

"It was an honor to help celebrate the opening of another new VA clinic in Maine," said Michaud. "Not only does this new clinic expand upon much needed services, but it will continue to ensure that veterans get the care they need closer to home. As a nation, we will never forget the sacrifices our veterans make, and providing them access to health care is the least we can do."

The first Portland clinic opened in December 1992 and provided high quality mental health care and subsequently included substance abuse treatment. According to the VA, the new clinic now also offers primary care, laboratory services, and the services of a home-based primary care team now assigned to the clinic.
