OCD has many forms. There are people who repeat behaviours over and over, such as turning off the faucet or locking the door or checking the range. There are people who are terrified of contamination or very scared of catching a disease and they simply can't seem to get the thoughts out of their mind.
Obsessive compulsive disorder is really common, and truly horrible for the sufferer. It's is like being trapped in a loop that goes round and round, a true vicious circle. And it tends to be driven by fear, that is
'What if I haven't turned the faucet off' accompanied by a big image in the mind, in this case, of a flood
Or
'What if my hands aren't properly clean'
Actually these OCD loops tend to be simple, but though they may be simple, they are thorough and there are a number of ways these patterns of thinking can be dealt with, can be retrained.

There are so many ways to help someone to overcome OCD thinking and all of them involve training the client's imagination and their habitual seemingly automated behaviours.

For the sufferer, obsessive compulsive disorder is at the very least, frustrating and limited, but in its more extreme forms it can be paralyzing. Intelligence has absolutely nothing to do with this, in fact a lot of people doing OCD are highly intelligent people. This the IMAGINATION caught in a loop. It is the way the person is unwittingly making great big exaggerated thoughts about something.

It is the imagination that needs training, and whether this is done via such techniques as the interrupt patterns, whether it is done via simply showing someone how they can shift their thinking around or whether it is done using hypnosis doesn't matter. In fact, usually, this kind of treatment for OCD is done in a variety of ways and it is done to suit an individual's needs.
