Beauty beyond the Body
This dance portrays the love of Parvathy towards lord Shiva. Her strength, her determination and her wisdom of love. This composition is an Inspiration from the Sanskrit classic Kumarasambhavam written by the renowned poet Kalidasa.
Jubilant Parvathy is seen joyously singing and dancing in the Spring artificially created by Manmatha -The Lord of Love to make Shiva & Parvathy fall in love. Parvathy is shattered when her lord, instead of looking at her is enraged and burns Manmatha with his third eye. Dejected parvathy sees no purpose of having a beautiful physical form. She decides to give away her features to the Nature. She gives away her sparkling eyes to the deer, beautiful smile to the blossoming flowers, graceful body shape to the creepers, gait to the swans & her braid to the snakes. She decides to win her Lord through vigorous penance. She sits meditating upon shiva and stays determined as seasons pass by - with heat of summer, the showers of monsoon and the celebration of harvest parvathy carries on undisturbed. At the advent of the real spring parvathy encounters shiva who comes in disguise of a brahmin to test her love. He questions her beloved's credibility to which parvathy replies wisely & confesses her deep love for shiva, which was beyond the physical realms. Pleased by her devotion , shiva accepts her and proclaims her to be a the example for “Atma Soundarya” , the one who revealed the Beauty & Strength of the soul.
