Styles are essential for formatting text. You can modify the size, font and more at the same time instead of modifying the text or paragraph individually. Each iBook template has a built in style, but you can modify the style any way you want or even create your own. To use paragraph styles, all you need is your text, the Styles Drawer and the Paragraph Style button. You can select a style by clicking on the Paragraph Style button under the Add Pages button. When you apply a style to a paragraph, you don't need to select it. You can just click to the paragraph you want to apply the style to. Paragraph Style changes can only be applied to the entire paragraph, not to words within the paragraph. To modify an existing style, you first pick the paragraph that uses the style you want to modify and format the paragraph the way you want it to look. Then you click on the Styles Drawer, which is the blue button next to the Paragraph Styles button. Click the red arrow next to the style name and choose Redefine Style from Selection from the pop-up menu. Now you have a modified style. To create a new style, you start off just like you would with modifying a style. Select the paragraph and format the paragraph the way you want it to look. At the bottom of the Styles Drawer choose an option from the Add Styles menu. Then create a name for your new style. And that's how you select a paragraph style, modify a style and create your own.
