Pariah, for which writer/director Dee Rees recently won the Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Director, opens in NY, LA, and SF on December 28th; and in additional cities in January. Spike Lee is among the drama's executive producers. The Focus Features release stars Spirit Award nominee Adepero Oduye, as Alike, a 17-year-old African-American woman who lives with her parents (Kim Wayans and Charles Parnell) and younger sister in Brooklyn. The coming-of-age tale follows Alike as she quietly but firmly embraces her identity as a lesbian. NBCU Direct attended the Special Screening in New York City, where we spoke to the cast and filmmakers about what they hope viewers will take away from their movie.
