According to reports six hospital officials have been charged with culpable homicide in Calcutta after a fire at a hospital killed at least 73 people.Reports say the majority of the victims were patients at the AMRI Hospital while three of the dead were staff.The fire started in the basement of the hospital where medical supplies and chemicals were being stored it was reported that heavy thick smoke quickly engulfed the building.Most of the victims died of suffocation reports said. Exactly how the fire started was still not known, officials said. More than 160 patients were inside the Dhakuria building of the hospital when the fire broke out. At least 85 were confirmed to have been rescued.The hospital's license has already been revoked by the West Bengal government msnbc has reported. Reports say officials were charged with culpable homicide as politicians and police officers vowed to punish those responsible for the blaze.There were also claims made by the local fire department that the hospital did not have adequate fire safety systems or an evacuation procedure in place.
