I wrote this very personal song in October 2007 in Aspen, Colorado, where I was to do a concert in Carbondale and play a small part of the annual celebration of the life of John Denver by performing at Windstar.
My life had been turned upside down and I had no idea of where I was going. I was pretty lonely having had to leave my partner behind in England, but I have a wonderful friend in Aspen who came around, and we talked about the meaning of it all; he said that everything we've ever done leads us to the place we're in. I'd discussed that philosophy before, but never in so much depth, and out of it came a clarity of mind that told me that we all have the ability to shape our own future by just believing that what we want will become reality.
I wrote the song deep in the night, and got up with my guitar and worked on it down at the John Denver Sanctuary in Aspen. I love what it means to me, and I live it with all of my heart.
Anyway, my friend's pure philosophy changed my life, and I dedicate this song to him; his name is Shan Stuart. I will always know this song as Shan's song.
