Red Admiral and American Painted Lady butterflies descend on New York on their migratory path north for the summer. These specimens were cavorting in the bushes in Hudson River Park at Chelsea Piers in New York City.
This year the butterflies have arrived early and there are about 10 times as many as normal, probably due to the warmer climate.
