"Guramayle" is a term for black tattoo spots on the upper gum above each tooth that some tribes in northern Ethiopia apply to adorn their smiles. It is also a word used to describe a pretentious person who mixes foreign words into native language to appear superior.

Gigi reclaims this derisive term as a positive notion reflecting the multitude of influences on Ethiopians living abroad. Her song is a love song to the child of Diaspora.
