Randal Koene, Marcus Hutter and Colin Hales discuss the future of intelligence on different substrates, whether particular substrates won't be amenable to computing intelligence. - Is intelligence computable? Randal Koene says: At carboncopies (carboncopies.org), we support practical approaches toward what we descriptively term "advanced substrate-independent minds" (ASIM), i.e. transferring mind functions from the biological substrate to another substrate on which those functions can be performed. Carboncopies initially takes a technology agnostic stance. Carboncopies' main tasks are to clarify the fundamentals of ASIM and to maintain roadmapping activities towards the ASIM objective. Carboncopies organizes workshops and conferences where interested parties can exchange ideas, network with others, and keep updated on the latest developments in the field. We also gather up-to-date literature and news relevant to the ASIM community.

Colin Hales is researching EM fields, Ephapsis and bio-inspired computing etc. He believes it is likely that General Intelligence will be far easier to achieve in bio-inspired substrates that use or have EM fields by default (instead of trying to simulate physics or EM fields on current models of silicon based computing).

Marcus Hutter is a Professor in the Research School of Computer Science (RSCS) at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. Before Marcus was with IDSIA in Switzerland and NICTA. Marcus' research at RSCS/ANU/NICTA/IDSIA is/was centered around Universal Artificial Intelligence, which is a mathematical top-down approach to AI, related to Kolmogorov complexity, algorithmic probability, universal Solomonoff induction, Occam's razor, Levin search, sequential decision theory, dynamic programming, reinforcement learning, and rational agents. Generally Marcus is attracted by fundamental problems on the boundary between Science and Philosophy, which have a chance of being solved in his expected lifespan. One is Artificial Intelligence. The other is Particle Physics with questions related to physical Theories of Everything. Mathematics in its whole breadth (statistics, numerics, algebra, ...) has become his constant and cherished companion.
